“Teenagers who had been displaced from the community were brought back by the event, which also exposed them to the elders of the community and left them with a lifelong memory. Because there is a program that can assist me in teaching my children about culture, I am grateful for its availability…we look forward to the next event.”

Connecting Native Foster Children to Their Culture and Heritage
This new initiative was created in late 2023 to help build resilience in our Native children placed in the foster care system. We do this by providing cultural, spiritual and Indigenous teachings and practices that will help the children develop a strong sense of cultural identity, while simultaneously embracing and supporting foster parents by sharing the beauty and strength of Indigenous teachings.
We believe that increased cultural connections for Native foster children and increased cultural knowledge for caregivers will help develop better understanding, respect, and support for continued involvement of Native children in the foster care system.
